So, this visualization I think shows (in rather dramatic fashion) how far American tennis has fallen since the salad days of the late-'70s, early-'80s, at least for the men. I have yet to scrape the WTA site to get the women's draws, but I suspect the numbers will be fairly similar. Actually, maybe even more dramatic, come to think of it. I've highlighted the high- and low-water marks for the men above, and it's pretty incredible. The peak year is 1982, when 78 ... that's right... seventy-eight... US Players earned their way into the 128-player main draw. You can see how far things have fallen since then, with low-points in 1999 and 2004.
