Getting started with the personal database

CoScripter can be customized so that your data is filled into forms when you run a script. In the "personal database" area at the bottom of the sidebar, add in an entry by creating a new line and putting "hometown = XXX" on that line, replacing XXX with your home town (e.g., Florence, Italy). Press Step.

  • go to "http://www.wunderground.com"

The next step will enter your hometown into the search box. Notice that the value appears in green in the search box to the right, and it also appears in the text of the step below. Press Step to enter your hometown into the search field.

  • enter your "hometown" (e.g., Florence, Italy) into the "Find the Weather for any City , State or ZIP Code , or Airport Code or Country" textbox
  • enter "Schwerte" into the "Current Models WunderMapEurope TemperaturTemperatur Hitzeindex Subjektive Windkühle Feuchtigkeit Taupunkt Wind Sicht Jetstream » Set as Default Type » About These Maps Letzter Stand 09:00 AM GMT am 31.   • click the first "Schnellvorhersage" button

Press Step to retrieve weather for your location.

  • click the "Fast Forecast" button

You can add more entries to your personal database simply by editing it. Values should be in the form "name = value". When recording a script, if you enter a value that appears in your personal database, the corresponding variable will be recorded. Then others who run your script will get to plug in their own values, rather than yours.

  • you click Step now to start over

"Fast Forecast" is the alt text for the blue button with the magnifying glass just to the right of the search box. Maybe it's different outside the US? So when I run the script it highlights and clicks the correct button for me.

There doesn't seem to be a "Fast Forcast" button on that page, which means the script doesn't actually work. It's fairly clear though.

I don't think the UK example is any more generic than the US weather example. Can anyone think of a good generic process that would make use of the personal database and be of interest to any internet user?

This script is not internationalized, most people in the world (and even most internet users) do not have a 5 digit zip code. Perhaps a more generic example would be better.
