FAQ

1. What can I do in IBM® Guided Activity Assistant?
The service allows you to walk step by step through a troubleshooting process or configuration task. You can associate a set of steps with a Case name, add notes to a Case, and review history of steps taken.

2. Must I log in in order to use IBM Guided Activity Assistant?
You need not log in to the service in order to use it. However, if you do log in, you will have access to additional functionality. Please see the following question.

3. How can I get my case information saved on IBM Guided Activity Assistant?
In order for the service to save your case information for future retrieval, you must log in with your IBM ID.

4. Can I set my own preferences for the service?
Yes, you can save preference information such as the default presentation of expandable sections (expanded or collapsed) and the default setting for Quickviews (shown or hidden). You can also drag the QuickViews to the side of the screen you prefer (left or right) by clicking on the title bar and dragging to the preferred side. Click on the Options link on the top right corner of the screen for further details.

5. I have closed a Quickview. How do I restore it?
In order to restore a closed Quickview, you must click on the dropdown arrow at the top of the Quickviews and click on the Quickview name that you would like to restore.

6. I have closed all the Quickviews. How do I restore all the Quickviews?
Click on the Options link on the top right corner of the screen and select the Show Quickviews radio button at the bottom of the dialog box. Click on Save.

7. What content is available on the service today?
  • Java™ problem determination for
    • out of memory
    • hang
    • crash
  • WebSphere® Application Server problem determination for
    • HTTP server and WebSphere plug-in
    • system management
    • security
    • J2EE connector (J2C)
    • Web container
  • Rational® ClearCase® problem determination.


8. I want to use IBM Guided Activity Assistant on my desktop. Can I do this?
A downloadable, desktop version of the service is available through the IBM Support Assistant tool.

9. Can I upload files into IBM Guided Activity Assistant?
At this time, this functionality is disabled. It will be available in a future release.

10. What happens if I started a case without logging in and now I want to save it?
If you started a case in the service before logging in and later decide to log in, all the case data pertaining to your current case will be saved in the case repository associated with your user name.

11. Can I import cases that I exported from IBM Guided Activity Assistant on the IBM Support Assistant tool?
At this time, this functionality is disabled. It will be available in a future release. At this time, you can only import cases that were exported from IBM Guided Activity Assistant on alphaWorks®.
